Welcome to ATEAM/AmeriCorps!
Meet our Co-Directors
Donna Brown

Hi, I am currently serving as Co-Director of the ATEAM/AmeriCorps program. This is the thirteenth year I have been serving in some capacity with this program. I became an AmeriCorps member in 1998, served in the role as Team Leader for Barren County for several years, then moved into a Regional Manager position, and from there into the Assistant Director position before assuming the Co-Director position last year.
Making a difference in the lives of the AmeriCorps members that serve with this program is what has kept me motivated all of these years. Of course, seeing the difference the members make in the lives of the children they serve only adds to the motivation.
I have three wonderful children and an awesome son-in-law. My faith keeps me going on a daily basis. Reading is one of my passions, along with spending time with my family, and walking to keep physically fit.
One of my favorite quotes is "Bloom where you are planted"!
One of my heroes is Mother Teresa. She definitely exemplified service all the days of her life! I will leave you with another of my favorite quotes from Mother Teresa-
"We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do."

Shannon Bailes

I have served with AmeriCorps in some capacity for 14 years. First, as an AmeriCorps member in this program, and then as Assistant Director of Training and Member Support, finally as Co-Director.
I have a passion for helping students to become better students through the service of the AmeriCorps members who serve in this program. I also have a passion for developing and motivating people through all the wonderful things that AmeriCorps has to offer.
I am married for 31 years and the mom of 4 sons, 2 daughter -in- laws, and Noni to two special grandsons. I love to read, sing, remodel the house, work in the yard, walk, motivate people and have fun no matter what I am doing. I believe there are times where rules need to be broken and forgiveness requested later. I believe in doing the right thing no matter what-you will get your reward later. I love to help people shine, even when my light is dimmed.
My motto: Attitude is Everything!
Two people who make be believe life can be better and we can affect change: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Marian Wright Edelman.
Favorite Quotes from Marian Wright Edelman--
"My faith has been the driving thing of my life. I think it is important that people who are perceived as liberals not be afraid of talking about moral and community values."
"Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of
life, and not something you do in your spare time."
Favorite Quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr.-
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the
whole staircase."
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
"If you want to be important-wonderful. If you want to be
recognized-wonderful. If you want to be great-wonderful. But
recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your
servant. That's a new definition of greatness."-From Drum
Major Instinct
Quotes from Mark Twain:
"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of
fear." -Mark Twain
"A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't
read."
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the
rest."
